Daffodils at Knightshayes Court, Devon. Bamboo pen ink & wash, on Fabriano Artistico 300 gms watercolour paper rough, 14×20 inches, 26th March 2018.
Sometimes it’s fun to let the ink and paint run in together and draw and paint at speed. It’s sometimes easier if it’s not the first time you’ve looked at the scene and then one’s subconscious and one’s instincts do all the work. Of course, some would say it’s a right mess, but I’ll stand up for this one!

One can have great fun trying not to paint a photograph but to capture the spirit of a place at a particular moment. On 26th March Knightshayes was daffodils! Not just a fine house, not just a brilliant walled garden, not just an idyllic place for walks and outings, but… daffodils. Sometimes it’s fun just to let the inks and paints flow.
